Cinderella

If my name was Cinderella
You could be the prince
I could wear my sparkling prom dress
We could fall in love the moment our eyes meet
If my name was Cinderella

If my name was Cinderella
We could have a song
And dance in the silver moonlight
You could hold me tight and spin me in the air
If my name was Cinderella

If my name was Cinderella
You could pick me up
In your gold and diamond carriage
You could be the hero of this fairytale
And I could be the one
If my name was Cinderella

But I can’t breathe, whenever you’re with me.

Can you feel my heartbeat in my chest
It’s getting faster every second
Time slows down, you are better than the best
But would you feel the same
If my name was Cinderella

I can’t breathe
‘Cause I’m not Cinderella
Until you’re here with me
I’m not Cinderella
You touch my lips
I’m not Cinderella
Then you show me with a kiss
That I’m your Cinderella

Cinderella

Loraine Lotter

***

After I read the poem "Cinderella" by "Loraine Lotter" the idea of the poem is that the speaker is a girl who is talking about if she was Cinderella which I know is a fairy tale princess. Also the speaker says she isn't a princess without the one she loves proving to her that she is a princess . I think this because the speaker says "If my name was Cinderella" when the speaker says If that means she is dreaming of something, wanting something or pretending to be something she isn't. I also think that the speaker says she is not Cinderella well a princess without the boy she loves. I think this because when the speaker says "Then you show me with a kiss, That I'm your Cinderella" this proves that the speaker says that she doesn't fell like she's her boyfriend/husband or fiance's princess or love without him proving it to her. When the boy kisses her he makes her fell special like the princess Cinderella how her prince ran after her to find her.I think the speaker is a young girl because this poem is about young love and when the speaker says "If my name was Cinderella" best illuminates that only girls normally would wish to be princesses and have a romantic fantasy story like the princess Cinderella and only usually young teens or young adults wish for that. I also think that the speaker is hopeless and might want to tell her mate that if she was his Cinderella he should kiss her, carry her and in the poem it sates "If my name was Cinderella, You could pick me up, In your gold and diamond carriage, You could be the hero of this fairy tale, And I could be the one" this as well illuminates that maybe the speaker the girl wants her boyfriend or mate to prove to her that she is his princess by carrying her. This poem's use of diction shows that it is fairy tale like and happy. I think this because the words "Prince", "Cinderella", "Carry", "Kiss","Sparkling prom dress", "lips", "song","moonlight", "gold", "Diamond", "Carriage"," hero", "fairy tale", "love", "eyes","dance", "breathe" and "heartbeat" show that it is very fairy tale like and happy poem. The speaker who is a young girl's tone through the story remains wishful and happy because she continually says if,prince, princess, Cinderella and kiss best shows that the speaker when she says if many times is wishful and cindrelle is a happy word to young girls because she is a girl who found her prince charming. (HOMEWORK 3/22/13)
